Found out about lose 12 in 30 but wasn't quite sure how it worked so I filled out an application to participate anyways. 2 weeks later I was informed that I'd be receiving a free months supply of healthy food and a weight loss plan. There have been many years wondering if I'd ever lose my extra pounds. So, when I found out about the lose 12 in 30 challenge, I figured give it a try. After submitting my information to participate, someone from their staff contacted me and indicated I qualified for $50 worth of free groceries along with a designed weight loss plan. Geraldine Wise - Hendersonville, North Carolina

A family member heard about the lose 12 in 30 challenge and decided to contact them to see if they could help with my weight loss? We filled out a few forms and waited. A week later I was told that I was selected to receive a 30 day supply of groceries. All I needed to do was visit their doctor for a physical assessment. After my visit, they designed a meal plan along with some medical therapeutics to aid. We need more organizations like this.

"To lose the extra fat we must lower insulin. That is really the key"

Dr. Eric Berg DC

About Our Challenge

The number one cause of disease in society today are those extra pounds. Our purpose is to help reduce disease by eliminating peoples excess weight. Focusing on the reduction of excess weight, will help people who suffer from type 2 diabetes, who are pre-diabetic or who have insulin resistance. A group of us including some doctors and dieticians came together to design a weight loss plan that would help people lose 10-15 pounds and keep it off. If you sat down with our ancestors 100 years ago and told them that in 100 years from now, the number 1 cause for disease is people being overweight, they wouldn't believe you.

The food and lifestyles that we live everyday is essentially killing us.

Number one cause of disease in the western world is obesity

Nearly 3 in 4 adults age 20 or older in the United States and in Canada are either overweight or obese. Nearly 1 in 5 children and teens ages 2 to 19 years have obesity. Overweight and obesity can lead to serious health issues for people of all ages. Since obesity is a chronic disease, pharmacotherapy should be prescribed with the intent of lifelong use and as part of a comprehensive management plan that includes nutrition, physical activity, and behavioral counseling.

Obesity is a chronic health condition that raises the risk for diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease — the leading cause of death in the United States and Canada — and is linked to many other health problems, including cancer. National Institute of Health (NIH)

Roles of the gut microbiome in weight management

Our protocols focus on foods and behaviors that contribute to overall gut health. That means eating fresh fruit, vegetables, leafy greens and naturally fermented foods; avoiding stress; sleeping enough; and getting regular exercise. Fermented cabbage is one of the best foods on the planet to help produce good gut bacteria.

"In a recent study, it was determined that ~22–38% of change in body fat during weight loss intervention could be explained by the baseline microbiota." NATURE

Get your sleep

Sleep deprivation promotes an increase in ghrelin, your hunger hormone, which can trigger late night snacking.

Try to commit to small walks

18 minutes of daily walking could do wonders. It isn’t about calorie burning, it’s about the mobility and the happy hormones your brain releases. Think of it as just 6 songs 3 minutes long.

Eat your veggies

Vegetables have been shown to have the most beneficial impact on the gut microbiome, which influences your metabolism, insulin levels, and fat storage.

Drink plenty of water

Sometimes we can mistake the feeling of thirst for hunger, so make sure to stay hydrated throughout the day, especially during and after exercise. Try to stay away from drinks high in sugar and at the very least consume less sugar or non-sugar alternatives.

Eat more fiber

Fiber helps regulate blood sugar levels, prevent insulin resistance and diabetes, and is an excellent source of nutrition for healthy bacteria in the gut. High-fiber foods like vegetables are also filling without overloading on the calories.

Reduce eating processed foods

Weight gain is strongly associated with the consumption of processed and packaged foods. Try to choose whole foods over packaged ones.

Try to cook at home

Try your best to cook at home. Not only does it generally save you money it helps reduce the possibility of consuming sneaking fats, sugars, and processed ingredients.

Follow the 12in30 protocols

Take the prescribed weight loss supplements and medication that promotes your weight loss and metabolic health.

Focus on the quality of food and aim for three hearty meals a day that include a small amount of complex carbohydrates (root veggies and whole grains), a moderate amount of high-quality protein (fish, chicken, eggs, or tofu), and lots of fiber.
